Dear Friends of Chatham Rec:
Did you know that in the last 10 years, the number of youth participating in Chatham Recreation sports has doubled but the number of fields has remained the same? It's a testament to the Chatham Rec sports program that we have so many eager athletes, but you've probably experienced the "shortage" of fields first hand or cancelled games due to weather that couldn't be rescheduled.
To help address this, The Chatham Athletic Foundation (working with the Township and Borough governments) is helping to fund a major field restoration project that is already underway at Shunpike field. The Shunpike project will dramatically improve youth athletics in Chatham by providing new playing fields including two new natural grass baseball fields, a large sided soccer field and a multi-purpose synthetic turf field similar to Lum - the project will also include lights! If your child has ever played sports on the turf field at Lum, you've experienced the positive impact field improvement projects like this can have on our community - resulting in fewer cancelled games due to rain and increased playing time during the spring and fall seasons.
The Chatham Athletic Foundation is now launching a fundraising brick campaign to raise additional funds to help complete the Shunpike Field Restoration Project!
As a participant in Chatham Rec sports we'd like to ask for your help in completing this important project by purchasing a personalized commemorative brick for a new courtyard that will be included at the new field complex. A commemorative brick is a great way to honor students, coaches, teams and the athletes in your family while supporting this great effort. The Chatham Athletic Foundation (CAF) is a non-profit 501(c) 3 organization thatwas created in 2005 by a group of local parents to promote youth athletics and to increase safety in athletics through public education programs. Much of the initial work has focused on reducing the local governments' burden of improving and maintaining athletic fields within Chatham Borough and Township and/or the Chatham School District.
CAF is not affiliated with any specific sports program in town nor is it involved
in any aspect of managing recreational or other programs. CAF's goal is to raise
funds to enhance the athletic experience for children in all programs through
additional and better facilities & education.
